All Billy's Eve.

So, this little contest of mine ended up getting a lot of attention from the public.

There ended up being over 1,500 entries!

Also, from my calculations, many more than that dressed up as I've heard and read countless stories about running into multiple Billy Mays costumes during the Halloween festivities.

So many of you put a lot of thought and time into it and I appreciate that.
I wish I could post every entry but it's just not practical.

So, I've narrowed it down to around 500 of the best and most unique..

Some websites and news outlets thought the idea of a costume contest was strange or in poor taste...

To them I say: Really?
I'm honored that people would want to dress up as my dad for Halloween.
And judging by most of the notes that came along with the pictures, everyone who entered enjoyed paying tribute to him as well.

 

ANYWAY -

Thank you to everyone who participated and if you're in the gallery, it means that you have a chance at winning. 

I'm taking these pictures to the Sullivan Productions crew and we're gonna pick our 3 favorites.

I'll announce winners by Monday, November 9th.

Everyone said I looked and sounded EXACTLY like Billy Mays and I'm not even in the top 275. That's very disappointing.

My son's photo was on the original slideshow but now not in the gallery - does that mean he is no longer in the top 275? Here is the link from your slideshow of his entry (Kevin, age 8).

Also, why is it that there are people who don't even have a Billy Mays costume on? Just an Oxy-Clean shirt. I don't see why those get picked for the final 500. That's not even a costume.

Great pictures, really good job everyone. I'm amazed at how many people dressed up like your dad. I love that some media it's saying it was in bad taste. Um you are his son, and should have every right to do what you want with his memory as long as it is respectful.

I noticed a pic of me in the gallery but it's not even my best pic. Guess I should've only sent 1 or 2, hope I'm not being judged by this pic. Anyways, I don't want to sound like I'm complaining about it, this was still fun to do. I was going to go as Billy before I even knew about the contest. Found out about this 2 days before Halloween and already had the costume set up. Hope the winner is at least an adult with a real beard who resembles Billy naturally.

I love these pic's!!! I saw so many GREAT BILLY MAY'S costumes!!! After seeing all the pics, I'm kinda scared in this contest. I really hope I have a chance!!! I really love my pics and video of me.

How come you don't have any zombies?? You guys put up people that don't have a Billy Mays costume on, but my Zombie Billy Mays wasn't good enough? That's strange.

To be honest, Jess, after seeing the very few zombie entries that came in, I realized that pictures of Zombie versions of my dad may not belong on this site. I'm compiling a gallery of the zombie entries for Flick'r. Will link from here when it's done.

I can't help to wonder, did you even look at all of the pictures sent in? I am not saying I should be in the top 3 by any means, but I followed the requirements and I believe my photos were better than 90% of the people shown. How did I not even crack the top 500? That is all.

Gabriel - Yes, I looked at EVERY entry, multiple times. You have to imagine looking at 1,500 pictures of basically the same thing by yourself. It was very hard for a lot of them to really stand out.

Some of the entries are really, really good. I had a great time paying tribute to your dad on Halloween. I received mostly positive reactions, except for one guy who kept saying "It's too soon! I should hit you with an egg for that costume!" A quick explanation of the contest and quotes from the Mays family didn't seem to change his mind, but whatever; boo on him. Anyway, I think everyone was tasteful and it's clear that we all love and miss the great Billy Mays!

I was honored to be BM for Halloween. I was going to be him due to Pitchmen on Discovery. His death sealed the deal that I would be honoring him. I doubt I'll win the contest, but I'm happy to see that my tribute has made it into the top 500 post.

I understand you leaving out the zombies, but I have to also agree with Gabriel.

I don't understand why the girl with the bear costume and the other girl with no costume at all (except for the oxi-clean shirt) get chosen for the 500.

Seems a little strange.

The bear costume and a few others definitely only got posted because of uniqueness. That particular girl had a whole back story of how she was a panda bear as Billy Mays.

The "500" wasn't meant to be a TOP 500.. It was only meant to showcase the diversity of the costumes. Though, the potential winners ARE in there. But, trust me, not all 500 were seen as potential winners.

Also, in the beginning it was only a top 250 and when people complained that they're pic wasn't posted, I decided to double the offer. (lol)

Finally, this is just a fun little contest.. there was really no official way of doing it. It was just me asking for pics of people dressed as my dad, THEN I decided to give away prizes. So, it's more strange to me that a few people have decided to criticize and question the methods behind it when they're really aren't any.

Just enjoy the pictures, my friend. : )

I guess I am a little confused. I thought the submission deadline date was Nov. 4th however you seem to have already chosen the top 500 on Oct 30th per your post? Was this accurate? Were any of the submissions viewed after the 30th?
